Video and television have become the major vehicles of communication in the 20th century and since the late 1950's, artists have increasingly turned to this medium to make art. Over the years, artists interjected their video visions into museum and gallery spaces and into our mainstream media. Seen on this program is the first major retrospective exhibition by Nam June Paik, widely considered the father of video art, at The Whitney Museum of American Art. Also seen are video pieces by Ernest Gusella and David Byrne at MoMA's "New Imagery and Performance Video" exhibition. Made in 1983, this program includes interviews with Nam June Paik, Ernest Gusella and David Byrne of the band Talking Heads as well as a brief interview with Barbara London, curator of video at the Museum of Modern Art. 28 min.
